Natural Places in Hong Kong

Hong Kong natural attractions include Repulse Bay, Lantau Island and Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.
Repulse Bay
Repulse Bay is located in the south of Hong Kong Island, to the east of Deep Water Bay, it is the most spectacular bay in Hong Kong. The crescent-shaped stretch of sand is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong. The beach features a lifeguard clubhouse built in traditional Chinese style. Its ceiling is decorated with magnificent swirling dragons. Towering twin statues of Kwun Yum and Tin Hau, both protectors of fishermen dominate the picturesque gardens that lead down to the beach.
Repulse Bay
In 1841, the bay was used as a base by pirates and caused serious concern to foreign merchant ships trading with China. The pirates were subsequently repulsed by the British Fleet, hence the name. Another theory holds that the bay was named after HMS Repulse which was stationed at the bay at one point. In the 1910s, Repulse Bay was developed into a beach, and the Repulse Bay Hotel was built in 1920. To attract swimmers, a bus route from Central to Repulse Bay was created, and now stands as one of Hong Kong’s oldest bus routes. A boutique shopping mall was constructed on part of the old hotel site to mimic some of the lost colonial architecture. On the eastern end of the beach is Kwun Yam Shrine, with prominent statues of goddesses Kwun Yum and Tin Hau. Also overlooking Repulse Bay, although from higher up, is the famous “building with a hole”.
The Repulse Bay area is one of the most expensive and luxurious residential area for dining, relaxation and aquatic activities in Hong Kong. Repulse Bay remains one of the best of Hong Kong’s attractions with its beautiful artificial beach and luxurious shopping arcardes.
Lantau Island
Lantau Island is the largest outlaying island in Hong Kong and has evolved to be an island of contrasting landscapes. On the north shore isolated villages overlook the airport, while the southern and western coastline has some of the most attractive beaches. Its tranquil and green environment makes it a popular spot for nature’s lovers and hikers. There is a giant Buddha gazing serenely on the Po Lin Monastery from its hillside site at Ngong Ping on the Lantau Island. Hong Kong Disneyland was also built in this island. On the south side of Lantau is Discovery Bay a modern development that has all the sterile charm of a British New Town that caters to wealthy families living in a luxury, car-free, bubble.
Preserving the natural ecological environment and features of the Ngong Ping area and converging the custom and culture of the Lantau Island, Ngong Ping 360 is sure to refresh your body and enlighten your mind, as soon as you step on the Cable Car.
Ngong Ping Cable Car
Ngong Ping Cable Car is a visually spectacular 5.7km cable car journey, travelling between Tung Chung Town Centre and Ngong Ping on Lantau Island. Visitors will enjoy panoramic views of the Hong Kong International Airport, South China Sea, the Tian Tan Buddha Statue, as well as the flora and fauna of North Lantau Country Park.
Adjacent to the Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal, Ngong Ping Village is an impressive cultural themed village, incorporating two major attractions, including Walking with Buddha.
For a more cultural and religious experience, the world’s tallest seated outdoor bronze Buddha, the Tian Tan Buddha Statue, is only a short stroll from the Ngong Ping Village. Tian Tan Buddha Statue is the major centre for Buddhism in Hong Kong and is located next to the Po Lin Monastery.
Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens
The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is one of the oldest zoological and botanical centers in the world. It is located at Mid-levels, on the northern slope of Victoria Peak in Hong Kong. There are more than 1,000 species of plants in the gardens, mostly indigenous to tropical and sub-tropical regions. It includes some rare species like the Dawn Redwood and the local Ailanthus. In addition, some species which can produce flowers throughout the year can also be found there, like the Hong Kong Orchid Tree. You’ll also see camellias, azalea, rhododendron, roses, and orchids, providing the garden with breathtaking colors. Trees include fig, palm, gum, Camel’s Foot, coral, and a variety of other unusual selections. There’s also a fragrant herb garden located in the southern corner of the main garden area and an area that houses a unique shrub collection. A greenhouse is home to 150 native and exotic species including orchids, ferns, bromeliads, climbers and house plants. Apart from the plants, there are over 600 birds, 70 mammals and 40 reptiles, including many different species. Tour to Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Square

For most cities around the world, landmark architecture is indispensible and there is no exception to Hong Kong. Do you know what Hong Kong's landmark is? This time I will introduce you the Golden Bauhinia Square.
The Gold Bauhinia Square, a wide open area in North Wan Chai of Hong Kong, is of great importance in the handover of Hong Kong and the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. As we all known, Hong Kong was controlled by Great Britain as a colony in the history and considered as "the richest jewel in the British Crown" by English people. 100 years later, it was finally returned to the People's Republic of China on 30 June, 1997 and the handover ceremony was held in the Gold Bauhinia Square. During the ceremony, the forever blooming Bauhinia statue was sent to Hong Kong as a present from motherland, commemorating this historic moment in Chinese History.
Forever Blooming Bauhinia Statue
The forever blooming Bauhinia statue, about 6 meters high, is located near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. It looks like a vivid bauhinia sparking in the sunshine during the day time and a gorgeous golden jewel in the colorful light effect at night. It is so spectacular, right? The Gold Bauhinia Square gained its name from it. In most Hong Kong local people's eyes, it is a typical symbol which represents Hong Kong Reunification Day. Nowadays, it is frequently visited by domestic and foreign tourists as an important spot.

Visiting Siheyuan in Beijing Hutongs

The historical Siheyuan (Chinese courtyards) are a symbol of ancient Chinese architecture that dates back 2,000 years. The layout of the courtyards is prevalent as a template for many palaces, housing complexes, temples and monasteries. To see the traditional buildings of Chinese architectural style, Beijing Hutong tours is a good idea.
The Hutongs in Beijing consist of numerous courtyards joined together. The histories of the Hutongs are interesting as it demonstrated the social class status beginning from the Ming Dynasty where the Forbbiden City was the center. Nobles and rich merchants lived in luxurious courtyards situated in the east and west. Commoners were located to the north of the palace.
Beijing Siheyuan
Usually a whole family lives in a compound. The elder generation lives in the main house, the younger generation lives n the side houses, and the south house is usually their sitting room or study. All the houses have large windows at the front and small windows high up in the back walls. Some houses do not even have back windows.
Some larger residencies have two or more courtyards, they are usually inhabited by a big traditional extended family with several generations. There are still some siheyuan in Beijing, mainly former mansions of princes, some of which have been turned into museums, and others are used as government offices. The typical Siheyuan consists of four buildings and the main gate always faces the south. The Hutongs are a unique part of Beijing culture. Although the most famous remaining Hutongs are residencies of the rich and famous the most interesting part of visiting these areas is catching a glimpse of the everyday life that still continues.
