Western Hills lies in the Biji Mountain chain to the west of Kunming. It is visible from the eastern or northern banks of Dianchi Lake. Clouds and mist often hide the mountain sides, with their giant firs and pines and many ancient temples.
The Dragon Gate in the Western Hills is close to the west shore of the Dianchi Lake. The elevation of the Dragon Gate is over 2,300 meters, 300 meters higher than the water surface of the Dianchi Lake. It consists of the Sanqing Temple and the Dragon Gate Grotto which was accomplished through 72 years of hard work (1781-1853). The 3rd March of lunar year is a festive time in the Western Hills, when it is considered the best time for Kunming residents to climb the mountains and look into the distance, to admire the spring flowers and appreciate the feeling of new life
Golden Horse-Green Rooster Archway is a traditional piece of architecture.
The emblem of the city of Kunming is composed of a golden horse and a green rooster. It was designed according to a popular legend about Dianchi Lake.

After breakfast at your hotel you will be driven to Dali, which is about 360 kilometers from Kunming and requires 4 hour drive. After lunch you will visit Dali Ancient Town which was set up in 1382.
During the Ming Dynasty it was the capital of the Dali Kingdom you will then proceed to visit Xizhou Village, where you will enjoy the architecture of the Bai ethnic people. At the village you will experience Bai minority dancing and singing performances and taste the local three courses tea.
Dali Ancient City, also called Yeyu City, Forbidden City, Zhonghezhen, lies 3 kilometers north from Xiaguan, the capital of Dali Prefecture. Embracing Erhai Lake in the east and adjoining Cangshan Mountain in the west.
Xizhou Village established for more than 1,000 years, Xizhou Village is located 18 km north of Dali at Yunnan province of China. Historically, it was a military fortress of Nanzhao Kingdom and a temporary palace of the King of Nanzhao. The village is famous for its genuine culture and architecture of Bai people.

Donglianhua Village, The Ancient City of Weishan

After breakfast at your hotel you will be driven to Donglianhua Village (Eastern Lotus Village) of Weishan County, which is about 48 kilometers from Dali. After lunch you will be transferred to the Ancient Weishan County, which was once the capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom. Later you will be driven back to Dali.
Donglianhua Village, also called East Village of Lotus, is situated in Yongjian Township, Weishan Yi and Hui Nationalities Autonomous County of Yunnan Province. Donglianhua Village is a classic Muslim village that has a long history and glorious culture.
The ancient city of Weishan is located on Mount Weishan in the west of Yunnan Province. The ancient city was established during Yuan Dynasty.
Day 05, Dali to Kunming
