Mosques In Beijing
Around the 10th century Islam was introduced into Beijing due to the Yuan Dynasty and the earliest mosque was built on Ox Street in 996 AD, hence the mosque being named Niujie mosque. During the Yuan Dynasty the Dongsi and Erlizhuang mosques were built. The Ming dynasty seen the construction of Huashi mosque and four other mosques but it was during the Qing dynasty that seen the fastest growth of Islam with over 30 mosques being built. There is currently a total of 72 mosques in Beijing spread across the different districts.
