Standing between two and four stories in height, a Qilou has its ground floor set back halfway into the building so that it can be used as a storefront to take shelter from rain and sunlight. Surrounded by ponds filled with lilies, winding bridges and exotic palm trees, this is a pretty temple in a tropical setting. The main building is the Wugong temple housing life like statues of the five officials and known as the first building of Hainan. The Song dynasty poet, Su Dongpo, is also commemorated here. There is also a newer museum building here with further information on the five officials.
The Wugong Temple has been called "Jade Terrace and Wonder Land" for a long time. Its main body is the Watching Crop Hall which enjoys the reputation of "number one tower" in Hainan. The red tower was built with fine woods. The crooked roof, black tilt, red pillar, and the green trees add pleasure to each other. It has two stories, more than 10 meters high.
There are huge lifelike stone statues of the five celebrities in the main hall houses. After climbing on the second floor, you can see a horizontal tablet inscribed with "The First Tower in Hainan" hanged on the wall. The antithetic couplet on the inner pillars downstairs relates the great deeds the five men did for the country and expresses admiration from the later generations.
Xuefutang (Studying Room) was the ancient place where the great Ch'ing scholar Guo Wanxiang gave lectures. The Wugong Jingshe (The Refined House of Five Lords) is on the right and used to be the place where the students from Hainan Province studying history and poem in the end of Qing Dynasty. It was built in a typical Ming and Qing style with a black tilt and red wood construction.
Tomb of Hairui

Hairui Tomb is an important national cultural protection unit. It's one of the famous Haikou sightseeing attractions in haikou china.

Yangtze River Cruises from Chongqing to Yichang

Not long ago, I had a chance to do Yangtze River cruises and downstream to Yichang Three Gorges Dam from Chongqing.


I did not expect after the completion of the Three Gorges Dam, "gorges" scene can be so spectacular, artificial lake stretching 650 kilometers from Chongqing to Yichang, clear water matched landscape. Besides, this section of the Yangtze River water is very clear. The most important is that the night of Yangtze River is so beautiful.

I sat on the deck of the six floor of a ship which sailed from Chongqing, watching at the sunset, the nigh fell on the mountain city, the blinking neon lanterns on both sides of the river, the swaying boats decorated with red and green lanterns, and the illuminated the bright lights of water waves ripples, as if to be in a dream.
The ship passed by Wanzhou, Fengjie, Wushan, and entered Hubei Province, passing by Badong, Zigui and Yichang City, the ship sailed with beautiful scenery all the way, and even a township has colorful river bank lights. Sometimes, I could see the residents drinking tea, playing cards and mahjong in the taverns and teahouses by the shore, a scene of peacefulness.

China Guilin Li River Tour

Macau Mount Song also known as Dongwangyang Mountain got its name because there were dense pine trees in the old days. Hutong, as the smallest structural units of Beijing, has become a hit by a number of foreign tourists.

Because I came early in the morning, there were few people in Nanluogu Xiang, and many shops still close, including bars, cafes, restaurants, and workshops.

So I could only leisurely walk through this less than 800 meters old lane to enjoy the unique charm of Nanluoguxiang, and appreciate the tradition and romance of Chinese Ming and Qing culture and modern Western civilization.
In the narrow Hutong, the swaying trees, brick and gray tiles, exquisite courtyard, and rickshaw, all reflect the visual elements of traditional Ming and Qing culture, and constantly convey the historical vicissitudes of Hutong.
With the integration of Western culture, based on the national culture, many special commercial shops show an entirely new spirit and visual experience.
Wandering around in the Hutong, you can experience the traditional elements that give you insights on the history and culture. So you're in the desert and you think you're hallucinating and seeing an oasis...Well, you're not dreaming if you're in Dunhuang! You have reached Dunhuang's Crescent Lake which is indeed a real life oasis in the middle of the Gobi Desert. The lake is located on the outskirts of Dunhuang, approximately 6 kilometers from the city. The Crescent Lake is a heritage site and is really one of its kind, hard to believe it's been around for more than 2,000 years!

Over recent years there have been growing concerns about the preservation of the lake. The main worries over the lake are due to the shrinking of the lake over the years. However, measures have been taken to preserve the lake and after all it is a listed UNESCO heritage sight therefore the government has created a man-made lake to balance out the Crescent Lake and in recent reports it has been said that the lake has continued to grow over the past couple of years. Though despite the shrinking of the lake what can't be denied is the beauty of the sight with its fine setting and traditional architecture.
The appeal of the Crescent Lake is its absolute individuality and location. At the Crescent Lake you can experience fun in the sand with Camel rides that allow you to enjoy the view of the magnificent sand dunes. Or you can take a trek all the up to the top of the sand dunes and take an adrenaline rush back down by sand sliding all the way back to where you came from!
Jade Gate in Dunhuang
In the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD), the Jade Gate (Yumen pass) was a frontier pass of Han territory leading to the Western Regions, mostly referred to the Central Asia. It was an important pass on the China Silk Road travel, a famous trade route between Asia and Europe. Jades were transported from the Western Regions to Han which gave the pass its name. The Jade Gate was of military significance as well. The western border of Han was constantly suffered from invasions of Xiongnu, an ancient state located in the north of China. Many Chinese people knew the gate because of the classic piece "Beyond the Border" written by a poet called Wang Zhihuan (688-742). The poetry depicts how barren and rough the situation is around the Jade Gate and the border soldiers' homesickness.

Here I found one of the translations of the poetry,
The Yellow River goes all the way up to the sky.
A lone fort sits amid numerous mountain tops.
The Qiang flute need not envy the willow trees.
The spring breeze never sweeps beyond Gate Yumen.

Although I am not too satisfied with this translation, it is sufficient in giving you the idea of what the poetry is about. I really like the last sentence. There is no spring breeze or blossom flower or willow tree, or whatever beyond the Jade Gate. The desert-like landscape will only worsen the soldiers' homesickness and depression. To be exact, spring breeze will not even reach the back of the Jade Gate, not to mention beyond the Jade Gate.
Nowadays, Jade Gate is no longer at the frontier of Chinese border. Its relic locates inside Dunhuang, Gansu province. This region has rich tourism resources. Dunhuang is home to the well-known Mogao Grottos and Gobi desert. And to its southeast, there is Qinghai Lake. Plenty of tourists visit this region by train and by car. For those who came to this region, the Jade Gate is an attraction that tourists do not want to miss due to its rich historical and cultural meaning. They came here to feel the lines of Wang Zhihuan. Southern dwellers are likely to find the landscape around the Jade Gate very unique, or even bizarre, as it has nothing similar to the south. The Gobi landscape is just stunning. It is barren, but beautiful. Of course, if you go there as a soldier without knowing your returning date, you might not feel that way anymore. After breakfast at your hotel you will be driven to Donglianhua Village (Eastern Lotus Village) of Weishan County, which is about 48 kilometers from Dali. After lunch you will be transferred to the Ancient Weishan County, which was once the capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom. Later you will be driven back to Dali.
Donglianhua Village, also called East Village of Lotus, is situated in Yongjian Township, Weishan Yi and Hui Nationalities Autonomous County of Yunnan Province. Donglianhua Village is a classic Muslim village that has a long history and glorious culture.

The ancient city of Weishan is located on Mount Weishan in the west of Yunnan Province. The ancient city was established during Yuan Dynasty.

Green Lake Park, also called Cuihu Park, is an urban park which was created in the 17th century on the west side of the Wuhua Mountain in Kunming. It is sometimes described as a "Jade in Kunming".
